This auction -- your bid today -- can make an incredible difference. The Wet Tropics of Northern Queensland are a global phenomena and a global treasure, and it will take nothing less than global dollars in order to truly save it. The Australian Rainforest Foundation will devote the proceeds from this auction to go towards purchasing, protecting and rehabilitating unprotected rainforest bordering the World Heritage Listed Wet Tropical Rainforests of Queensland. We have been doing exactly this since 1996, but we need your help. The ARF has been a great defender of this land and we have some great international partners that help us advance our mission including the following: The San Diego Zoo, Nashville Zoo, Birmingham Zoo, the Chicago Zoological Society, White Oak Conservation Center, the Association of Zoos and Aquarium's Ratite Taxon Advisory Group, GlobalGiving out of Washington DC and their incredible donors and corporate partners including eBay and eBay Giving Works, Finlandia Vodka, the Paignton Zoo in the U.K. plus many other institutions in Australia and around the world.

Rainforest is the most diverse ecosystem on Earth yet it only covers 6% of the world's surface. A valuable resource for cultivated plants, many foods, raw materials and medicines, still each year over 20 million hectares are destroyed worldwide, logged for timber and cleared to plant crops and graze cattle. If this vital ecosystem is to survive, remaining areas of rainforest must be protected.
Australia is one of the few places in the developed world where rainforests are available for public enjoyment, global conservation and research. These World Heritage Listed rainforests are the oldest continually surviving rainforest in the world; the most varied in Australia, they contain an almost complete record of the evolution of plant life on Earth, and have the highest concentration of primitive flowering plant families in the world. Almost 30 rainforest communities occur here, with many species in many layers of vegetation.
